CAROL STREAM, Ill., September 10, 2026 – A. M. Castle & Co. is proud to announce that it has been recognized by the Metals Service Center Institute (MSCI) with a 2026 Safety Culture Improvement Award. The honor recognizes MSCI member companies that have successfully strengthened employee engagement in workplace safety, promoted safety awareness, and implemented programs that drive continuous improvement across their organizations.
The award was presented during MSCI’s annual Safety Summit, where industry leaders gather to share best practices, explore innovative approaches to workplace safety, and advance the metals industry’s commitment to a zero-harm environment.
Since its merger three years ago, A. M. Castle & Co. has made significant investments in enhancing environmental, health, and safety (EHS) management systems while fostering a stronger culture of employee engagement. Key initiatives included employee safety task forces, behavior-based safety observations, Safety Reset programs, cross-functional Safety Summit days, ongoing EHS education, and foundational leading-indicator safety programs.
These efforts have delivered measurable results. Recordable EHS cases decreased from 39 in 2023 to 19 in 2025. During the same period, Days Away, Restricted, or Transferred (DART) cases declined from 24 to 11, while the company’s DART rate improved from 1.98 to 1.12 and its Total Recordable Incident Rate (TRIR) improved from 3.22 to 1.93.

MSCI President and CEO M. Robert Weidner III praised the award recipients for their leadership in advancing workplace safety throughout the metals industry.
